Block Prints

Personal Comment: for this project I started with one small cork block and one 8 x 11 block. Then I drew the design I wanted on to a piece of paper, and transferred the image to the block. Using various carving tools I carved out the image into the block. To make the prints I rolled ink on to the block and ran the blocks and paper through a press, in order to transfer the image. For the large block (8 x 11), I carved the image of a really fat cat, which was supposed to represent my cat. For my project I tore out the covers of over 30 Time magazines, and printed image each time in many different colors and designs. Though the project was to create a collage I would say I created more of a montage. For the small block I carved The image of a duck with only one foot. He has a wheel chair contraption that is allowing him to walk, the caption reads "2nd chance". This was a stamp I dedicated to my mother who works everyday with handicapped, special ed, and disabled people, as a teacher. The message was about giving those less fortunate than you a second chance, and honoring the people who do it every day.

2-Point Perspective Painting

Positively Main Street
Personal Comment: For this project I started by creating two points on the outer edges of the paper, then I drew them both to connect at the center near the bottom (where you see the corner of the sidewalk). By vicariously drawing back to each of these points I was able to create realistic looking buildings. The exact layout of the buildings I created out of my own mind. I made them all up except for the Dunkin' Donuts building on the left of the center building. After drawing the image I painted it using only temperate paint. I used only blue, whites, and black. All the shading and different tones were all done with the same color. If I were to do something different I would fix how the streets converge towards the middle, in order to make them appear more like the streets then just shading.

Book Page Projects (Art 1-2)

The Man with the Long Flag
Personal Comment: My theme for this project was war. I started by gluing two pages of Lord of the Flies onto construction paper. Then I painted over the pages leaving only particular words to still be seen. When I first saw the page with William Golding on it I automatically knew that I wanted to paint his beard at an exaggerated length. Then upon examining the words I found that they were all war related, leading me to paint war paint on his face and add an American Flag in the background. This turned out exactly how I wanted it and I plan to use it in my art portfolio.
Materials: Constuction Paper, book pages, temperate paint
Bobbing for Gnomes

Personal Comment: My theme for this project was Tsunamis. The words I choose to let stay "a float" described what it was like for a Tsunami to hit and compleatly devastate an area. Using words and phrases like "bobbing" "wave after wave" "head under", etc. The Gnomes were to symbolize that what once stood on the lawn of a household was now struggling to stay above the water that had swept it away from its once pleasant dwelling. I painted the entire scene with acrylic paint so that I could go into much greater detail than possible with just  temperate paint. Overall it turned out exactly how I had envisioned it.
Materials: Construction Paper, book pages, Acrylic paint, glue glitter
Pour Me More Pain

Personal Comment: My theme for this project was pain. I wanted to depict what it is like for family's who experience the pain of alcoholism in there family.Using words and phrases like "glass after glass", "drunk", "bloody", "door slammed", etc. To create this project I used mixed media, a combination of acrylic paint and glitter glue paste. I painted out the original scene of blood pouring out of a beer bottle, then I put ascents on them using the glitter.

1-Point Perspective Drawing of My Room (Art 1-2)

Personal Comment: With this project I wanted to make something that expressed "me" in it. And what better way to do that, then to draw my own room. I have made a few various variations for the purpose of the drawing. For example the shelving unit on the right side of the picture is not actually empty, but I drew it to be that way, so that I could practice drawing the lines of the individual shelf's, which proved to be more difficult then just filling them with books and various objects. The small black formation on the end of the bed is may cat (Sparkle), I drew her in the picture as well because she is in my room just as much as any other piece of furniture. Overall, this is my room, this is my drawing, and on the bed that's my cat.
Materials: Ruler, graphite sticks, construction paper.

"Ride the Wave"..Board Design (Art 1-2)

Personal Comment:
I personally love riding wave boards, rather than skateboards, so I felt it would be more meaningful to me to make a design based around me rather than the traditional skateboard design layout. The waves in the lines of the design represent the way you ride the board and the way it feels to move continually with out interruption, on a bending path.

Save the Bay Skateboard Design (Art 1-2)

Personal Comment :
I did this freehand, and this was my first skateboard design this year. The artwork on it I designed to send a message about our worlds oceans, and the mass amounts of pollution that resides there. My Aim was to make this as creepy as possible but not to a point were it dis wads your interest  Every dead fish/trash object is connected to the Jellyfish by the tentacles and appendages that they have been entangled in.

The Beatles Skateboard Design (Art 1-2)

Personal Comment:
With this I just wanted to do something that would be familiar to most people. So I choose The Beatles. This is my own black and white rendition of the famous Beatles album, Abby Road. This was by far one of my funnest art projects this year, because I got to make it my own with out any guidelines. Plus it did not take me that long at all (about 3 hours). I hope this brings a smile to your face as I know it has done for mine.
