Block Prints

Personal Comment: for this project I started with one small cork block and one 8 x 11 block. Then I drew the design I wanted on to a piece of paper, and transferred the image to the block. Using various carving tools I carved out the image into the block. To make the prints I rolled ink on to the block and ran the blocks and paper through a press, in order to transfer the image. For the large block (8 x 11), I carved the image of a really fat cat, which was supposed to represent my cat. For my project I tore out the covers of over 30 Time magazines, and printed image each time in many different colors and designs. Though the project was to create a collage I would say I created more of a montage. For the small block I carved The image of a duck with only one foot. He has a wheel chair contraption that is allowing him to walk, the caption reads "2nd chance". This was a stamp I dedicated to my mother who works everyday with handicapped, special ed, and disabled people, as a teacher. The message was about giving those less fortunate than you a second chance, and honoring the people who do it every day.
